Introducing Ricky Tiki Tavi is always fun. "Ricky" (all pardons to Mr. Kipling) is my last of the original
herd of Washington Ponies. His name is fun to joke with parents about and a great source of merriment when
guessing his age. Many adults today have forgotten about Mowgli and his gang pretty much immersed in the
insensate antics of Sponge Bob.
In the horse world you figure 2 or 3 years plus or minus if you were not around for foaling or not provided with papers when figuring an equine's age. I bought this wonderful Welsh Gelding as 9 yr old in April of 1980. You do the math.
He's worked rides, stood still for photos under all kinds of situations, pulled a cart and worked as lead for my four & six hitch teams and as part of a two pony hitch both on the road and on city streets. I bought him for $150 which, I figure makes him a real deal in every sense of the word. Rick's never been sick nor gone lame and except for the sway in his aging back looks close to the same as when I joined with him 24 years ago. He no longer pulls but is still working with me on my hand-lead-pony rides.
